Auditions at TCT

When are auditions?

Auditions for Mary Poppins JR will take place August 6-7, 2026. Time slots available will start at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m on Thursday, and 5:00pm and 6:00pm on Friday. These slots must be registered for using our ONLINE AUDITION FORM (below) prior to August 5 (the form will close at 3pm on August 5). Please arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled time slot on your selected day (you do not need to attend both days of auditions).

If there is not an opening for a timeslot please sign up for our waitlist. You WILL be given an opportunity to audition.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. Those auditioning for Mary Poppins JR must be enrolled in 1st Grade or older. No one over 18 years old is able to audition.

Where are auditions?

Auditions will take place at TCT's studio at 601 Energy Center Blvd, Northport, AL 35473.

What do I prepare?

We ask that you prepare a 16-32 measure song (approximately one minute in length) and a memorized monologue of up to one minute. Both of these should be in the style of the show you are auditioning for. Uploading your instrumental music file for your song (mp3 track OR pdf sheet music) to your online audition form is required for the audition. Make sure that both the song and monologue you choose are age appropriate. If you are interested in a particular character from the show, choose material that is similar to the behavior or characteristics of that character. Scroll down for our "how to" videos regarding audition music.

What do the auditions consist of?

You will be expected to perform a song and a monologue. For most of our auditions, a short dance audition will follow. Comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes (tennis shoes or jazz shoes) are recommended for the dance portion.

What if I'm nervous?

Being nervous is natural, but we hope to alleviate those nerves with our upbeat atmosphere and opportunities to attend mock auditions, pre-audition workshops, and private audition coaching. Remember, we are all here to have fun. Come into the audition room with confidence and a smile on your face. Show the judges you are comfortable being in front of people, and you will rock that audition!

Why is behavior important in an audition?

Behavior is noted right when you step into the audition room so make sure you respect both the production team and your fellow audition group members. It is important that you stay quiet when others are auditioning so they aren't distracted or prevented from performing their material. This will make the audition process run as smoothly as possible.

What are callbacks?

Callbacks are essentially another audition where you are asked to read or sing for specific characters from the show. They typically are held the day following the second night of auditions. If you are needed at callbacks for the show you auditioned for, you will be notified by e-mail from the production stage manager, auditions coordinator, or other production team member.

What if I don't receive a callback?

Don't be discouraged. If you don't receive a callback after your audition, that doesn't mean you are not cast in the show. Casting is like piecing together a puzzle, and callbacks are utilized to make sure that puzzle is put together just right!
