Our K-5th Grade program goes beyond simply putting young children on stage; we're committed to developing well-rounded theatrical artists through our diverse elementary class offerings. While productions provide valuable performance experience, our specialized classes provide the age-appropriate technical training, foundational knowledge, and creative exploration that truly transform enthusiastic young performers into confident, skilled artists. New for 2026-2027 season, our Page to Stage classes offer onstage opportunities for students outside our mainstage productions.
Our 6th-12th Grade "Star to Be" Program is meticulously designed to develop serious young artists who are ready to shine on any stage. Beyond our comprehensive production experiences, we offer specialized training through our Jazz Technique, Beginner and Intermediate Tap Dance, Acting, and TCT On Tour Cast classes.
TCT offers personalized private instruction to help students refine their skills and achieve their theatrical goals. Our one-on-one training programs are tailored to each student's specific needs and learning pace. Students may register for a weekly 30-minute Private Voice Lesson or a weekly 1-hour long Audition Coaching Lesson.
Broadway Babies is thoughtfully designed as the first step in our comprehensive theatre education program. Upon "graduating" from Broadway Babies, young performers will:
An introduction to musical theatre designed specifically for our youngest performers. This engaging class combines storytelling, character exploration, and musical expression to build a strong theatrical foundation. Students will learn basic theatrical concepts through interactive stories, develop beginning vocal skills with age-appropriate songs, and explore creative movement and dance in a supportive environment.
"Music Madness" is an essential foundation for young performers focused on developing vocal skills and music theory understanding. Students explore melody, rhythm, and harmony through fun, interactive activities. The curriculum includes both group and solo singing opportunities, helping children build confidence in their vocal abilities while learning fundamental music concepts. This class serves as a prerequisite for private vocal lessons at TCT, ensuring all young vocalists develop proper technique and musical literacy before advancing to individual instruction.
This energetic class introduces students to the fundamentals of dance in musical theatre. Focusing on basic jazz technique and musical theatre dance steps, students develop coordination, rhythm, and spatial awareness. The curriculum includes proper warm-up techniques, fundamental jazz movements, and simple combinations that build both technical skills and performance quality. This class provides the essential movement foundation that allows young performers to approach choreography in productions with confidence and capability.
This innovative class takes music education to the next level for our 4th and 5th grade students. Beyond group singing and music theory fundamentals, Composer's Club introduces young musicians to the creative aspects of music composition. Students explore chord structures, melody writing, and basic arranging techniques. Through collaborative projects and guided composition exercises, participants develop a deeper understanding of how music works while expressing their own creative musical ideas. This class is perfect for musical theatre enthusiasts who want to understand the music they perform on a much deeper level.
This comprehensive acting course guides 4th and 5th grade students through a year-long exploration of acting techniques. Students analyze character motivations, develop emotional range, and master storytelling techniques while building a versatile acting toolkit. The curriculum progressively advances through foundational skills to more complex character development, helping young actors create authentic, nuanced performances. Students develop deeper understanding of the craft while preparing for more demanding theatrical roles.
This technique-focused dance class provides students with a strong foundation in jazz dance as it applies to musical theatre performance. Students learn proper alignment, stretching techniques, and fundamental jazz movements that frequently appear in musical theatre choreography. The curriculum emphasizes developing strength, flexibility, and proper execution of jazz basics, including turns, jumps, and isolations. By mastering these essential techniques, students enhance their ability to learn and perform choreography in productions, giving them greater confidence and versatility as musical theatre dancers.
Page to Stage: Aladdin KIDS is the perfect class for young performers looking to gain more real on-stage experience! Students will participate in the entire production process from audition to final bow, all within a supportive educational environment. The class meets once weekly for rehearsal throughout the year, finishing with a dress rehearsal on April 15th and full production on Friday, April 16th at an off-site venue (TBA).
**The Aladdin KIDS rehearsal snd performance schedule will NOT conflict with any mainstage productions throughout the season. Students are welcome to participate in both, if they wish!
This introductory tap class provides older students with a solid foundation in this quintessential musical theatre dance style. Students learn basic tap vocabulary, rhythmic patterns, and proper technique while developing musicality and coordination. The curriculum progresses from fundamental steps to simple combinations that build both technical skills and performance quality. This engaging class offers students a new mode of theatrical expression while enhancing their overall dance capabilities for musical theatre performance.
This accelerated tap class is designed for students with previous tap experience who are ready to advance their skills to a more sophisticated level. Building on fundamentals, students explore complex rhythmic patterns, faster tempos, and challenging combinations. The curriculum emphasizes clarity of sound, stylistic variations, and performance dynamics. Prerequisites include either completion of at least one semester in TCT's Beginner Tap class or equivalent outside experience. This class prepares dancers for the tap demands of more advanced musical theatre productions and develops the specialized skills that make performers stand out in auditions.
This comprehensive jazz dance class develops the technical foundation essential for musical theatre performance at advanced levels. Students focus on proper alignment, increased flexibility, and technical precision in jazz movements. The curriculum includes challenging progressions across the floor, turns, leaps, and stylized movement combinations that enhance performance quality. By strengthening core technique rather than just learning choreography, this class creates versatile, technically proficient dancers prepared for the diverse stylistic demands of contemporary musical theatre.
Designed for students in grades 6–12, this class challenges young performers to grow as confident, versatile actors through engaging and interactive theatre training. Students will explore character development, scene study, improvisation, voice and movement, emotional connection, script analysis, audition techniques, and ensemble collaboration. Through games, exercises, and performance opportunities, actors will strengthen their stage presence, storytelling abilities, and creative confidence in a supportive, encouraging environment. Whether you're new to acting or looking to sharpen your skills, this class offers something for every performer.

This unique performance-based class offers serious students ages 12-18 the opportunity to develop and perform an original traveling show, which includes a “Soaring” season medley arranged by TCT alum Rosie Webber! Participants rehearse a production designed for touring to local schools, community centers, and nursing homes, and new for 26-27, a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida! The experience culminates in a special end-of-year performance at The Bama Theatre that does not conflict with current season productions. This select ensemble develops performance versatility, adaptability to different venues, and the professionalism required for touring productions.
Students auditioning for Mary Poppins JR. can be considered for TCT on Tour without a separate audition by selecting the box on their audition form. If not auditioning for Mary Poppins JR., send a video audition including a 30-60 second song to cole@tuscaloosachildrenstheatre.com by August 16, 2026 with subject line “TCT on Tour Audition - STUDENT NAME”. At the beginning of your video, introduce yourself and tell us some of your favorite musicals or suggestions for this year’s touring show!
Our 30-minute private voice lessons are available for students in 4th-12th grade, or younger students who have completed our Music Madness (or Songs, Stories, & Steps) prerequisite. These individualized sessions focus on developing proper vocal technique, expanding range, improving breath control, and enhancing performance quality. Working directly with our experienced vocal instructors, students receive personalized feedback and customized exercises to address their specific vocal needs.
**For students who are younger than 4th grade and have completed the "Music Madness" or "Songs, Stories, and Steps" prerequisite, email the Program Coordinator at marykate@tuscaloosachildrenstheatre.com for admission into a private voice lesson slot.
Also available for students in 4th-12th grade, or younger students who have completed our Songs, Stories and Steps or Music Madness prerequisite, our comprehensive 60-minute audition coaching sessions prepare students for upcoming performance opportunities. These sessions include both vocal preparation and monologue work, helping students select appropriate material, refine their presentation, and develop the confidence needed to excel in auditions. Our coaches provide industry-standard advice and personalized strategies to showcase each student's unique talents effectively.
NOTE: If you wish to register for a 60 minute audition coaching session, you will need to register for two 30-minute private lesson blocks that are back to back with the same instructor.
