Resident Technical Director

Tuscaloosa Children's Theatre is seeking a passionate, organized, and hands-on Resident Technical Director to oversee the scenic and technical execution of our productions while helping build the next generation of theatre artists.


This position serves as the primary technical leader for TCT's productions, overseeing scenic construction, volunteer build crews, backstage operations, and technical support for productions and programming. The Resident Technical Director works closely with directors, designers, stage managers, volunteers, and student crews to create safe, engaging, and high-quality theatrical experiences. 


Position Details:

  • Position Type: Part-Time
  • Compensation: $10,000–$15,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
  • Schedule: Flexible year-round schedule with increased hours during production periods
  • Expected Time Commitment: Approximately 10-15 hours per week during active show build periods, with additional availability required for load-in, technical rehearsals, performances, and strike. Hours outside of production periods are significantly reduced and focus primarily on planning, maintenance, and organizational responsibilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teaching Artist

Tuscaloosa Children's Theatre is seeking passionate and experienced Teaching Artists to join our educational team. Teaching Artists at TCT are responsible for designing and implementing high-quality theatrical instruction that inspires creativity, builds confidence, and develops performance skills in students of all ages.


Position Details:

  • Position Type: Part-time, contract-based
  • Schedule: Afternoons, evenings, and weekends, with additional opportunities during school breaks and summer
  • Location: TCT Studio and various locations throughout Tuscaloosa


Available Teaching Disciplines:

  • Acting
  • Improvisation
  • Jazz Dance
  • Musical Theatre Dance
  • Ballet Dance
  • Tap Dance
  • Voice
  • Audition Preparation
  • General Musical Theatre
  • Stage Management
  • Costuming
  • Technical Theatre


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach age-appropriate curriculum in your area(s) of expertise
  • Create a positive, supportive learning environment that encourages student growth
  • Collaborate with TCT staff to align class content with program goals
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and communicate regularly with program director
  • Participate in showcase performances and student evaluations as needed
  • Attend faculty meetings and professional development sessions


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in theatre, dance, music, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a classroom or studio setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more theatrical disciplines
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to adapt teaching methods to various learning styles
  • Experience working with children and youth in educational settings
  • Professional performance experience preferred
  • Current background check required
