TUSCALOOSA, Ala. 9/21/21 –– TCT is excited to announce audition dates for Elf The Musical JR!   

Mock Audition Workshop: 

 ·  Ages 12-18 only  

 ·  Oct 3 at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church 

 ·  Prepare to present your monologue and song for auditions, prepare for dance practice 

·  Masks required   

Auditions for ages 12-18:  

·  October 7-8 at Tuscaloosa Academy 

·  Attendees must register to audition between 5 pm and 6:30 pm on October 7 or October 8 (attendees need only attend one night of auditions) 

·  Please prepare a monologue no longer than 60 seconds in length and 16 bars/measures of a musical theatre song 

·  Be prepared for a dance audition 

·  Masks required   

Auditions for ages 5-11: 

·  Video auditions will be submitted online between 12:01 am on October 21 and 11:59 pm on October 22 

·  Please prepare a monologue no longer than 60 seconds in length and 16 bars/measures of a musical theatre song

Public performances of Elf The Musical JR will be Dec. 3-5, 2021 at the historic Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. Tickets will be available to purchase in November. 

The musical is based on the beloved holiday film about Buddy the Elf’s quest to find his true identity while experiencing many hilarious mishaps along the way!  “It’s such a fun and comical show that’s sure to spread holiday cheer to all and get everyone in the Christmas spirit,” Executive Director Stacey Messina said. “We are so thrilled to move forward with our season. This will be our first production at the Bama since the pandemic began and the kids are beyond ready to get back on stage.”   

TCT’s Artistic Coordinator Drew Baker will direct the show. Additional staff include Autumn Fuller as assistant director, Merry Livingston as music director, Colton Crowe as stage manager, Ashlyn Lambert as choreographer, Jameson Sanford as set designer, David Jones as light and sound director, Tiffany Yeager as costume designer, Cyndi Wilson on props, and Will Flowers as technical director.   

“This is a very talented group of artists ready to work with our cast and crew,” Baker said. “They give so much to TCT and to the kids and we are so appreciative of their help. We can’t wait for all the kids to audition and get started!”   

The second show in TCT’s 2021-22 Season of Celebration will be Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR with performances set for April 29-May 1, 2022. An audition workshop will be held Feb. 27 at 2 pm with auditions March 3 and 4, starting at 5 pm with sign in by 630 pm (ages 5-18).  

This season marks TCT’s 35th year of providing high-quality arts education, community engagement, and live entertainment in West Alabama. TCT will celebrate our anniversary with multiple activities announced throughout the year to honor our founders and the numerous casts and crews over 35 years.   As part of the celebration, TCT dedicates this season to Shelley Jones and Dee Ward, two board members whose vision brought together the necessary forces and funding to create TCT in 1986. The original group of parents, educators, and theatre professionals identified a need for the youth of Tuscaloosa and surrounding counties to educate and expose children to all aspects of stage performing and to have opportunities to perform. 

Today, TCT offers onstage and offstage opportunities for hundreds of children each year, and houses audiences of thousands of children and families annually. TCT remains the area’s only nonprofit performing arts theatrical group dedicated solely to educating and exposing children to all aspects of stage performance and production as actors, stage crew and audiences.
