The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household.
Our TCT Crew is truly the backbone of every production we put on stage! From making seamless scene changes happen to cueing cast members and keeping everything backstage running smoothly, our crew members are focused, dependable, and absolutely essential to the magic our audiences see. It’s an incredible opportunity to learn real theatre skills, make new friends, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
Anyone age 12 and older is eligible to join the crew — no prior experience required! If you’re ready to be part of the action behind the scenes, apply by clicking here.
Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre is proud to partner with Arts n’ Autism to present a sensory-friendly performance of The Sound of Music, Youth Edition on Saturday, April 25 at 2:00 PM.
This performance is designed to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, sensory sensitivities, and other unique abilities, as well as their families and caregivers. Sensory-friendly performances allow patrons to enjoy live theatre together in a relaxed, non-judgmental setting.
During this matinee, audience members are encouraged to engage with the performance in ways that feel comfortable to them. While traditional theatre etiquette typically asks patrons to remain quiet and seated, this sensory-friendly performance welcomes self-expression, including singing, clapping, dancing, and movement. Vocalizations or other unique responses to the music and action are understood and embraced as part of the shared experience.
To further support our audience, the theatre will offer quiet spaces for patrons who may need a break from stimulation, as well as sensory corners located in the upstairs area of the theatre. A Mobile Sensory Vehicle provided will also be parked outside the theatre, offering an additional calming space for children who may need a sensory break before, during, or after the performance.
Fidget tools and noise-reducing headphones will be available, and house lights will remain partially on throughout the performance to allow for easier movement. Modifications for this performance are primarily environmental rather than artistic, ensuring that patrons experience the same high-quality production as other performances. However, strobe lights and sudden, loud noises will be omitted to avoid unexpected sensory triggers.
Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre is delighted to offer this sensory-friendly matinee and looks forward to welcoming families for an inclusive, joyful and accessible theatre experience.
